If you want to grow long, shiny, healthy hair it is important to keep your hair follicles nourished and healthy.
Nourish Your Hair Strands with Oil-
An ancient beauty secret that dates back thousands of years for lustrous shiny hair is using a high-quality Nourishing Hair Oil Serum daily. Hair oils improve the quality of your hair and protects it from damage. The fatty acids within the oils help to minimize damage in your hair form splitting. Incorporating this into your daily ritual will add nourishment and moisture to your hair strands as well as makes it shine beautifully!
Quality over quantity. When it comes to hair oils, you don’t need a lot of it! You only need a few drops of a good quality Hair Oil Serum for all your lovely strands. Warm a few drops between your hands and gently finger comb through your hair making sure to distribute it evenly. Make sure to apply the oil away from your scalp as your scalp naturally produces oils. If you are doing this in the evening and will be washing it out by morning you can also massage a little into your scalp to stimulate your hair follicles – if you leave it on overnight just be sure to cover your pillow with a towel.
Nurture Your Hair Follicles-
Do a weekly coconut oil & herbal mask scalp massage in addition to using the hair serum. Massaging the scalp supports healthy hair follicles and stimulates hair growth at your scalp – when you have healthy hair follicles you will have noticeably healthier hair. Mix a little of the Lotus Herbal Hair Mask in with some warmed coconut oil and massage into your scalp. Massage for no less than 5 minutes for full benefits. Clip your hair up and leave the mask on for at least 30 minutes or a few hours. When you wash it out, you will need to double shampoo!
Be Gentle with Your Wet Hair-
If you brush your hair while it is dry, before getting into the shower, this will greatly reduce hair breakage and damage to your hair. If you still need to comb your wet hair, try using a wide tooth comb instead of a brush.
After your shower, apply a few drops of your hair serum to seal your hair cuticle add back some moisture to your hair, and try to allow your hair to air dry, rather than using a heat tool – if possible! The use of heat tools, such as blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons, are very damaging to hair and causes your hair to fry so to speak. But, if you DO need to use a heat tool, make sure you apply a Nourishing Hair Serum first. The serum not only helps to detangle wet hair, but also helps to seal the hair cuticle which acts as a heat protectant as well.
Use A Natural Shampoo & Conditioner–
Harsh chemicals in hair care products can wreak havoc on your hair and scalp. Choose an all-natural & eco-friendly shampoo and conditioner without the use of parabens (interfere with hormone function), phthalates (endocrine disrupter) and sulfates (skin and eye irritant). Since, sulfates are overly good at cleansing they also strip your hair of its natural oils and can make it dry and brittle; often a culprit for those who suffer from a dry and irritated scalp! Products containing “parfum” or “fragrance” most often contain phthalates and parabens, parabens are also a widely used preservative, so opt for a product that uses essential oils instead.
When rinsing your hair out use cool water, rather than hot water. Warm/hot water is great for the cleansing portion of your hair as it opens the hair cuticle, but cool water closes your hair cuticles (the outer layer of your hair shaft) which then adds luster and shine to your hair and helps with frizz!
Eat Supportive Foods & Stay Hydrated–
Nutrition is important for beautiful hair also. Ensure your hair is receiving the right nutrients from the inside out. Favor foods that are rich in biotin, silica and folate.
~Biotin promotes healthy hair growth and increases the elasticity of your hair.
Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin which means the body cannot store it. It can be found in egg yolks, avocadoes, nutritional yeast (an in-active yeast used for its cheesy flavor), salmon, sweet potatoes, broccoli, dairy and some nuts and seeds (walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds).
~Silica is an essential beauty mineral and promotes collagen production, which is not only great for your skin, but for healthy hair too. Silica can be found in cucumbers, melons, leafy greens, artichokes and asparagus. Other rich sources of silica are nettle leaf and horsetail (also be found within our Nourishing Hair Serum), as well as oat straw and rosehips.
~Folate helps to stimulate hair growth. Folate is also a water-soluble vitamin and can be found in legumes, asparagus, eggs, leafy greens, beets, citrus fruits, brussels sprouts, broccoli, nuts and seeds, papaya, bananas and avocadoes.
Staying hydrated is essential for our whole body as a system, but it also affects our hair. Dehydration can cause your hair to grow slowly and will also make your hair more prone to damage.
Reduce Stress–
Stress can take a toll on your hair and can temporarily cause it to go into a resting phase. High amounts of stress can cause what is called Telogen Effluvium which causes you to have a significant amount of hair fall. If you often feel stressed try to incorporate a de-stressing ritual into your day. This could be a relaxing bath soak and/or a 15-minute meditation. Adding this ritual into your life is merely a way of honoring yourself and enhancing your well-being.
Be consistent and keep up with your routine and your hair will thank you for it!
Much Love, Happiness & Harmony, Alexis ❤
