SMC Holistics (formerly known as Smell My Chakra – hence the SMC) began in 2014 with a desire to create clean beauty products that help you live a less toxic life, maintain healthy beautiful skin, and age gracefully! Having trouble in my own life with chemical sensitivities and migraines that are often triggered by synthetic fragrances and chemicals found in many commercially made products, my mission became to create a line of products that is safe, effective, non-irritating, non-toxic, and safe for me and my children to use on a daily basis.

Babies & kids absorb substances through their skin at a much higher rate than adults do. Everything in life has a cumulative effect on your health, your children’s health, and even your children’s unborn!
Before I started my little business, I used a great online source called EWG Skin Deep Cosmetic Database to get information on the products I was purchasing. You can obtain a carcinogenic risk rating for basically every commercially made product you can think of. Once going through and researching countless ingredients, I discovered that even the “healthier” products I was brought up using were also made with many toxic chemicals I wasn’t comfortable using on myself or my family.
With that being said, herbalism, natural living, health, nutrition, and overall wellness have always been a HUGE interest and way of life for me for as long as I can remember! Sciences were always my go-to subject of interest in both high school and college. I have a background in biology, microbiology, chemistry, and psychology, as well as a prior career background as a Certified Dental Assistant.
Despite being very busy working as a Dental Assistant as well as being a full-time mom, I took a soap-making class as well as a 170-hour Aromatherapy course through the West Coast Institute of Aromatherapy. It was then that I fell in love with creating handcrafted soap, skincare, candles, and everything else I need to run a natural chemical-free home. This is when my small business began to bloom.
Taking on the huge task of starting my business, I spent my days and nights dreaming about skincare formulations and soap! It consumed my thoughts, and it still consumes my thoughts. I spent my mornings, days, sleepless nights, months, and so on just researching ingredients and their effects, creating products, and testing products. Then in 2013, SMC Holistics became a registered small business and my e-commerce store became a reality in 2014!

At the beginning of this all, I had only set out to make products for myself and my children, but soon after my little business was unintentionally created. I live, eat, and breathe a holistic lifestyle, possibly to more extremes than most, but it makes my soul happy, and I love that I get to share my experiences and products with you!
